Tumuaki (Principal’s) Welcome
Our kura and community is vibrant and diverse and there is always a warm welcome for you and your whānau. I am privileged to be the tumuaki and I am keen to journey with you and your whānau throughout your time with us.
Te Kura o ngā Puna Waiora is a friendly and positive school where children are inspired, and encouraged to contribute and thrive. We recognise students’ diverse abilities, interests and needs and aim to provide a wide-ranging programme.
We are fortunate to be in the heart of Newtown Community within accessible distance to Tangi Te Keo (Mt Victoria), Wellington zoo, local parks, Te Papa, retirement villages and playgrounds. With our close community connections, our learning is authentic, meaningful and fun! We work in spaces which are colourful, flexible and allow our learners to work together. Each day awesome staff collaborate to create learning that enables thinking, creating and joy.We are all learners here at Newtown school. Our school is often described as the ‘hub’ of our community and use of our basketball hoops and school grounds is welcomed.
We provide an inclusive community and welcome families from all over the world in bicultural Aotearoa. You may hear different languages and see different clothes. You will also notice shared laughter and games, acceptance and communities woven together. We value strong partnerships between families and teachers, where it is vital children are part of the team that enable their best learning.
We have high expectations for positive behaviours and value respectfulness. Our school values weave through all that we do. We are focused on working with you- the whānau and your child. Together with you as their ‘first teachers’ we will strive to care for the ‘Whole Child.’ We welcome your enquiries or visit.

We are fortunate to be offered a wealth of opportunities to spark their interests, feed their enthusiasm and extend their creativity. Whether it is programmes offered as part of the curriculum or extra-curricular activities, the range offered goes towards creating well-rounded individuals with a richness of experiences. Love Learning Love Life! is our school motto.
We want learning to be fun, focused and family friendly. That means we intend working with you to add value to your child’s education.
All of the New Zealand Curriculum and areas are taught, in order to build a solid foundation for future learning.
We offer at Newtown, Te Reo Immersion Education (level 1). Te Marautanga o Aotearoa is our curriculum. In 2021 we started on the journey of bilingual education. At the moment, students can opt in to the bilingual class one day per week.
Our students at Newtown School have the opportunity to gain much more than a basic education, Our staff work together to provide a future focussed 21st century educational experience, in a positive, friendly, safe and respectful school learning community.
Partnerships with our Communities
Newtown School has a unique partnership with the Victoria University, along with the Otago University Medical Schools, which are located on our northern boundary. Staff and students from the university and our wider community provide contributions to class and individual programmes, opening exciting new horizons to our children.
