Enrolment
Starting school is a new and exciting experience for children and their family. So before starting at Newtown we recommend your child comes into the school for a number of classroom visits.
This is a chance for both you and your child to have a look around the school, see how the classroom works and ask any questions you may have. It gives the teachers a chance to meet you and your child, and gives your child a chance to see the classroom and become familiar with the environment. This is also a good opportunity to meet the parents of other new children.
To enrol your child at Newtown School you will need to arrange a time to meet with the Principal and submit a completed enrolment form, if you would like any assistance completing this form please feel free to contact the office on 043896667
Enrolment Scheme
In order to avoid overcrowding or the likelihood of overcrowding, the board of Newtown School has adopted an enrolment scheme which has been approved by the Ministry of Education.
Under this scheme, students will be enrolled if they live within the home zone. The enrolment scheme, which includes a precise description of the zone can be found on the link below. The enrolment of out of zone students is governed by the provisions of the Education Act 1989.
The school operates an approved special programme, Ngāti Kotahitanga, Level One Māori Language Special Programme.

School Visits
Every morning, between 9am and 10.30am, our new entrants class (Te Whānau Tūī) welcomes new children who are close to starting school. However if visiting at this time doesn’t suit please contact the office on 04 389 6667 to arrange another time to visit.
Please note that parents need to stay with their children during a school visit.
